Just two years ago, we were faced with perhaps the most important election that gun owners have ever seen. The battle lines were clearly drawn between those who respect freedom and the Constitution, and those who don’t.

It is now common knowledge that gun owners changed history’s course in that election, and we are all to be commended on a difficult job well done. But then we watched a razor-thin pro-gun majority in the Senate slip away with the betrayal of Senator-turned-traitor Jim Jeffords, and we saw Senator McCain morph from a pro-gun conservative into an anti-gun turncoat playing to the liberal media.

The result is, we have an administration that is aligned with our cause but cannot do much more than maintain the status quo, because it cannot advance a legislative agenda or protect freedom in the Courts.

In a few weeks, we’ll have the chance to finish the job, once and for all. It’s not up to somebody else. It’s up to us – you and me. We’ve got to untie the hands of a President who is going to do great things to advance freedom’s cause.

Our biggest enemy in 2002 is complacency. Many think, “now that President Bush is in office, there’s nothing to worry about.” Nothing is further from the truth. The enemies of freedom are working to defuse the pro-gun vote by fooling us into believing that our rights are secure. Some are even camouflaging themselves as pro-gun!

That’s where you and I come in. Along with our love of freedom comes responsibility. Responsibility to lead. Responsibility to act. Responsibility to work, and to fight, and to pray, to preserve the freedoms we love. If you think you’re only one person, and that you can’t possibly make a difference, then be reminded that the 2000 elections proved beyond a doubt, and forever, that one person can and will make all the difference.

The power of one person is the power of all, because you are not alone, and you are not isolated, and every time you take one action to advance our cause, you step into a flow of activity much larger than any of us. Know that when you act, there are also thousands of others acting in parallel and reinforcing each other, creating momentum and having an immeasurable collective impact.

Every action that you take, every phone call, every letter, every person that you drag to the election polls, has a ripple effect on everyone else, and is magnified by the parallel actions of others. In 2002, stand up, be counted and make a difference!

 Let's finish the job!
