Letter to the Editor of the Daily Record (Morris County, NJ newspaper)

In Rob Jennings' July 12, 2003 article, NRA Board Member Chooses Guns Over Love, I am quoted as saying that before becoming conservative, I grew up believing everything I'd heard about NRA - that they are "a bunch of redneck extremists."

In my interview, I explained that before joining NRA, my impression was based on biased media stereotypes, but that after meeting members and scrutinizing the group's publications with an attorney's eye, I discovered that NRA is entirely different.

NRA is a fellowship of millions devoted to the singular mission of defending freedom from its adversaries.  Nearly all members are polite, responsible folks; some don't even own a firearm.  The Board of Directors includes visionary thinkers and courageous leaders.  NRA's mission includes protecting the Bill of Rights, promoting public safety, and training law enforcement. That's the real face of NRA, and your readers need to know it.
